TV and monitor size, height and width based on screen diagonal size

If you’re unsure about which TV size is right for you or find it hard to visualize the size of a 65-inch screen, our TV size chart can help. It includes TV sizes ranging from 19″ to 105″, with measurements in both inches and centimeters for your convenience. For guidance on selecting the perfect TV size based on your room size and viewing distance, check out our article, TV Size to Distance Calculator, where we explain how to choose the ideal TV size for your space.

General Information About TV and Monitor Sizes

The size of a TV or monitor is determined by its diagonal measurement and aspect ratio. Over the past decade, significant changes have occurred in screen sizing. While 20-inch TVs were common ten years ago, most major manufacturers now start their models at 32 inches as of 2020. Smaller TVs have largely transitioned into the monitor category, with many monitors now featuring operating systems and built-in tuners.

The standard aspect ratio for TVs is 16:9, while monitors often use 21:9 or even 32:9 for wider, more immersive viewing experiences. The older 4:3 aspect ratio, once prevalent in the pre-digital era, has become nearly obsolete.

TV screen sizes are measured diagonally, from one corner of the display to the opposite corner, and are typically rounded up to the nearest inch. In most regions, sizes are given in inches (e.g., 32 inches or 65 inches), though some countries use centimeters instead.

Screen sizes are influenced by manufacturing capabilities. Display factories produce specific standardized sizes, which is why you won’t find TVs with diagonals like 62 or 63 inches. Smaller sizes occasionally include less common measurements, but mid-range sizes such as 44 or 45 inches are absent since displays of those dimensions aren’t manufactured. If you need detailed measurements, our size chart has you covered.

TV and Monitor Size Chart (16:9 Aspect Ratio)

Our chart lists screen dimensions for TVs and monitors with a 16:9 aspect ratio, ranging from 19 inches to 120 inches. Keep in mind that the actual physical size of your device may be slightly larger than the screen size due to its bezel, typically no more than 0.5 inches (1 cm) wide—an almost negligible difference for modern displays. You will find all possible sizes in the table for a very simple reason: there are projectors and laser TVs that can produce images in non-standard sizes.

Monitor Size Chart (21:9 Aspect Ratio)

The table below illustrates the dimensions of monitors with a 21:9 aspect ratio. This format has gained popularity, especially in gaming monitors, as the width is 2.3 times the height. Many games are designed to support this aspect ratio, offering an immersive experience. Additionally, 21:9 monitors are highly practical for multitasking, making it easy to display two full-screen applications side by side. This makes them a versatile choice for both gaming and productivity, particularly when working with spreadsheets or other tasks that benefit from a wider display.

Curved monitor sizes aspect ratio 16:9, 21:9, 32:9

Curved monitors are the standard in the market, unlike curved TVs, which became a thing of the past after proving to be ineffective, mainly because they look ugly on walls.

The size of curved monitors is usually measured in the same way as traditional flat-screen TVs – by the diagonal of the screen from one corner to the other. However, there are a few important nuances to consider when choosing curved monitors:

Bend radius: Curved monitors are characterized by a bend radius, which is usually measured in millimeters (e.g. 1000R, 1800R). The smaller the number, the steeper the bend. A monitor with a 1000R radius will have a more pronounced curve than a monitor with an 1800R radius.
Aspect Ratio: Many curved monitors have an extended aspect ratio, such as 21:9 or even 32:9, as opposed to the traditional 16:9. This provides a wider field of view and is popular with gamers and professionals working with video and graphics.
Because of the curvature, the width of such a monitor is less than a flat monitor, but the depth is much greater as it is increased by the curvature, and this should be considered when planning to buy a monitor.

The figure below summarizes the dimensions of the most common curved monitor models.

TV Screen Dimensions in the picture, visualization

In this figure, I have tried to show the TV’s size if compared to a standard A4 sheet of paper, although it is partially incorrect to compare a large TV in this way. I’ve made a color image and given the width and height of the screen in centimeters; if you’re interested in inches, refer to the table above. Of course, the picture only reflects some available TV sizes.

  1. Do these charts include in the height the stand or just screen size? If just screen size on average what would i include for stand?

  2. My TV needs to sit on a stand and a swivel plate, this takes 3 inches. My opening is 45 x 28. Therefore, the TV can be 45 x 25. Do your chart dimensions include the frame?

    • The table shows only the screen size, the screen frame can range from 0.3 to 1 inch, depending on the model and manufacturer of the TV.

    • Why on earth would they include the frame? Different TVs have different frame sizes. The measurements are of the screens themselves. No one can guess the thickness of your frame.

      • This is quite conventional, part of the screen is still outside the frame. In addition, display manufacturers round up the diagonal (according to mathematical rules). For example, a 50-inch screen may have a real diagonal size of 49.5 inches or 50.4, depending on the display factory.

  3. I have a recess measuring 117cm wide x 82 cm height x 24.5 deep. I would like to get a 55 in. Television. What is the best way to do this so it looks ok

    • Buy a smaller TV. You can’t just pick and choose the height and width to total 55″. 55″ will be too wide for the recess, as per the above diagram and illustration.
