- Apple TV supports the ESPN app on models released in 2015 and later. If you own a device from 2015 or newer, you can download ESPN directly from the App Store without any issues.
- Below is a list of Apple TV models that are compatible with the ESPN app.
Compatible Apple TV Models with ESPN
Below are the Apple TV models that support the ESPN app, along with a brief overview of each device:
A1625 (2015) — Apple TV HD (4th Generation)
Introduced with tvOS and full App Store support, this model features Full HD (1080p) resolution and marked the transition to app-based functionality.
A1842 (2017) — Apple TV 4K (1st Generation, 5th Generation overall)
The first Apple TV with 4K and HDR support, delivering improved picture quality and faster performance compared to the HD model.
A2169 (2021) — Apple TV 4K (2nd Generation, 6th Generation overall)
Powered by the A12 Bionic chip, this version offers smoother performance, enhanced HDR support, and an updated Siri Remote.
A2737 (2022) — Apple TV 4K (3rd Generation, 7th Generation overall, Wi-Fi)
Features the A15 Bionic chip for faster processing, HDR10+ support, and a more compact design. Wi-Fi connectivity only.

Earlier Apple TV models are not compatible with ESPN due to outdated software and hardware limitations. Since only a small number of these legacy devices remain in use, continued development and support for ESPN on them is no longer practical.
