Below is a brief overview of how to return to the home screen on various Oculus headsets. Although the interface varies slightly between models, the general principle remains the same: press the main system button on the controller to open the universal menu, then select “Home.” For Oculus headsets (Meta Quest), the method for returning to the home screen depends on the model, but the process is generally the same: use the Oculus/Meta button on the right controller.
Meta Quest 2 and Oculus Quest (1st generation)
The steps are the same on both headsets. Only the logo on the button differs: Quest 1 shows the Oculus logo, Quest 2 may show either logo.
- Press the Oculus/Meta button on your right controller once. The system menu opens.
- On the classic universal menu, select the Home (house) icon or Explore to see your home screen. If you have Navigator, use the App Library or the VR Home switch instead.
- Press the button again to close the menu.
The menu in an app also lets you quit the app, record video or cast your view.
Meta Quest 3, Quest 3S and Quest Pro
On these headsets the right controller opens the system menu, which is now Navigator on current software.
- Press the Meta button on your right controller once (on Quest Pro it may be labelled with the Oculus logo). Navigator opens over whatever you are doing.
- Your App Library is the default panel, so you can launch an app right away.
- To return to your home space, use the switch between passthrough and VR Home in Navigator.
- Press the Meta button again to close Navigator.
Tip: double-pressing the Meta button shows or hides your open windows, which is a quick way to clear the view without leaving Home. Inside a game or app, the same single press opens a menu where you can quit the app and return to the library.
Oculus Rift and Rift S
These PC headsets use Dash, an overlay menu that opens on top of any VR app.
- Press the Oculus button on your right Touch controller once. Dash opens.
- Select Home in the Dash toolbar to go back to Oculus Home.
- Press the button again to close Dash.
Rift S works the same way. Holding the button recenters your view instead of opening a menu.
Oculus Go
Oculus Go has a single controller that works in either hand, and its Oculus button doubles as the Home button.
- Press the Oculus button on the controller once.
- When the prompt appears, confirm that you want to return to Oculus Home.
- From Home, press the trigger on any app to launch it.
Holding the Oculus button does not open settings. It recenters your view. The Back button is separate: it steps back one screen or opens an app’s own menu.
Go home with hand tracking (no controllers)
On Quest headsets you can open the menu with a gesture.
- Hold your palm toward your face at eye level.
- Pinch your thumb and index finger together until the Meta icon fills.
- Release. The menu opens, the same as a short controller press.
A longer pinch recenters your view, like holding the button. If hand tracking is off, press the Meta button on a controller, open Navigator, then go to Quick controls, Settings, Movement tracking and switch on Hand and Body Tracking.
