Google has long since ceased to be just a search engine. Today it is a wide range of digital services. Your Google Account has become the hub where your data is collected and synced. It is convenient and is now taken for granted.
In fact, your Google Account is your digital identity. The name and photo listed in your profile are visible to other users and directly influence how you are perceived online. But sometimes you need to change your name. Your name appears when you send emails from your Gmail inbox, as well as on services where you use your Google account to log in.
If you want to change your name in emails, the process depends on how you have chosen to display your name in emails. If the name is the one saved in your Google Account settings, then you need to change the name in your account. If you are using a custom name, also known as an alias, you need to do this in your Gmail settings. To change the name used for sign in, you also need to do this in your Google Account settings.
How you can change a Google Account name
To change the name of your account in Google, you can do it through your account settings, and the process only takes a few minutes.
On a computer, open myaccount.google.com
Go to the “Personal info” section
Find the “Name” block
Click “Edit”
Enter your new name and save the changes
On a phone, open device settings or the Gmail app
Go to “Manage your Google Account”
Open the “Personal info” tab
Tap “Name” and select “Edit”
Enter your new name and save
Changes may not appear immediately across all services, such as YouTube or Gmail. Also note that frequent changes may be limited. Your new name will be shown in emails, comments, and other Google services.
Changing your name in Gmail
In Gmail, the name recipients see isn’t tied to your Google Account name. These are two separate settings: one is your account profile, and the other is the sender’s name in emails. In your settings, you can choose which name to use when signing emails: the one you specify or the name from your account settings.
