Modern televisions are no longer simple devices controlled by basic microchips. Today, they are полноценные компьютеры with their own processors, memory, operating systems, and large high-resolution screens. Smart TVs let you install apps, stream movies and shows, browse the internet, and access a wide range of online services.
However, as with any electronic device running on an operating system, problems can arise. Over time, your TV may start to run slower, freeze, or behave unpredictably. When this happens, a simple restart is often enough to restore stable operation.
Restarting Sony Android and Google TVs
Sony smart TVs with Android TV or the newer Google TV interface offer several ways to restart the system when it begins to slow down, there are only two restart methods, although they are sometimes described as soft and hard restarts. In terms of how they work, both methods are identical.
The simplest option is to use the built-in Android restart function. To restart the TV, press and hold the power button on the remote control for about five seconds. A “Rebooting” message will appear on the screen, and the TV will restart. On some older Sony models, the TV may first turn off and then automatically turn back on after about a minute. If the TV has a physical power button, the same restart can be performed by pressing and holding that button for five seconds.
The second method is to disconnect the TV from the power source. Unplug the TV from the wall outlet, wait 15–20 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on. From the system’s perspective, this has the same effect as a standard reboot.
In both cases, restarting the TV refreshes the operating system, clears the memory cache, frees up RAM, and removes temporary files that may no longer function correctly. This often helps resolve minor performance and stability issues.
A factory reset should not be confused with a restart. It completely removes all user data, installed applications, and settings, returning the TV to its original out-of-the-box state. Although it can fix serious software problems, it deletes all data and is not considered a restart.
