The 2020 Samsung Q70T Quantum Dot TVs are the new version of the TV series that replaces the 2019 Q70R model. These TVs come in screen sizes of 55, 65, 75, and 85 inches. Below are the model numbers and prices for the North American market:

  • QN55Q70TAFXZA – $997
  • QN65Q70TAFXZA – $1290
  • QN75Q70TAFXZA – $1900
  • QN85Q70TAFXZA – $3290

The models are often abbreviated as QN55Q70T, QN65Q70T, QN75Q70T, etc. In Europe, the full model names are QE55Q70TAUX, QE65Q70TAUX, QE75Q70TAUX, and QE85Q70TAUX.

Q70T TV at a Glance and Comparison with the Previous Q70 Series

In terms of appearance, the design of the Q70T largely resembles its predecessor, with the screen taking up 97% of the TV’s front. The main difference is in the stand design, which has been updated. However, if you plan to mount the TV on the wall, this is not a critical change. The Q70T supports two types of wall mounts: Samsung’s proprietary Mini Wall Mount and the standard VESA mount.

Q70T TV Screen Review

The 2020 Q70T models feature updated UHD resolution screens, with a dual LED backlight that uses two types of LEDs—one for bright light and another for a warmer shade. Despite this, the screens themselves are still 8-bit, which means the color depth isn’t as deep as it could be. To compensate for this, dithering technology (8-bit + FRC) is used, effectively simulating a color depth close to 10 bits and visually increasing the number of color shades to nearly a billion. While the color reproduction might not be as advanced as that in earlier models like the Q70R, the Dual LED technology and dithering help maintain satisfactory color quality. The frame rate remains at 120Hz, ensuring smooth motion handling.

Sound & Ports in the Q70T

The sound system in the Q70T has been downgraded compared to previous models. It supports a 2.0 channel sound format with two 10W speakers, but lacks a subwoofer. In earlier models, such as the 2018 Q70 series, there were five speakers, and in 2019, three. Given this reduction, it’s advisable to invest in external speakers for a better audio experience. As for the ports, they remain unchanged and are standard for a UHD TV, offering enough connectivity for most users.

Processor in the Q70T

The Q70T uses a standard four-core processor, with no significant changes from the previous models. While the TV still carries the AI logo on-screen, it’s important to note that the processor itself isn’t “intelligent.” For AI functionality to work, the TV would need appropriate software and programs, which are not available on this model. The absence of such programs means the processor’s capabilities remain quite basic, despite the marketing emphasis on its “intelligent” features.

  1. According to Samsung’s answer, the Q70T has HDMI 2.0 ports installed. There may be modifications (depending on the country) when an integrated circuit supporting the eARC standard is additionally installed in the HDMI 2.0 port. Audio Return Channel, eARC included in HDMI 2.1 standard
