In 2021 Samsung keeps developing and promoting QLED TVs, so if you want to buy high-end TV, you definitely should take a look at one of them. In 2021 there are a lot of new models: Q60A, Q70A, Q80A, QN85A, QN90A. The lineup starts with basic Q60A and ends with ‘premium’ QN90A, so no matter how much money you want to spend on a new TV, you would find something that would fit your budget.

Samsung Q60A, Q70A, Q80A, QN85A models compared and explained

Let’s take a look at Samsung’s 2021 line of QLED TVs. Samsung’s QLED TVs are the 6,7,8 and 9 series. The eighth and ninth series offer the new 2021 Neo QLED TVs, these are the QN85A and QN90A models. We’ve already compared the 2021 models to the 2020 models, and in this article I want to compare all the 2021 models to help you make the best choice.

This will help you make the right choice when buying a new TV. If you want to compare all the tech specs, there is a table at the end of the article with a full comparison of QLED TV specs.

How different are QLED screens in different Samsung QLED TVs?

  • The displays in the TVs differ in terms of manufacturing technology. For example, the QN85A and QN90A have a new type of screen that Samsung began producing in 2021. Such screens have the commercial name Neo QLED. In Neo QLED televisions backlighting is made of thousands of small LEDs, which allows the use of dimming in small areas and significantly improves image quality. Note that the Q85A features screens made with IPS technology, given that Samsung has not produced IPS screens before, perhaps it is the screens of another manufacturer.
  • Neo QLED screens support a real 10-bit color depth. QLED of the previous generation (such screens are installed in the TVs Q80A, Q70A, Q60A) have a matrix with 8-bit color depth, to achieve a greater number of colors using dithering (rapid blinking of the screen backlight)
  • The Q80A has a screen backlight evenly positioned behind the screen. The Q70A and Q60A have the backlight at the edge. This is worse because it does not allow the screen dimming technology to be fully applied.
  • Separately, we can consider the Q60A series. Even though it’s still a QLED TV, these TVs have screens with minimal technical capabilities. They can only show 60 frames per second, compared to 120 Hz in other models. Given a large number of TV models with screens from 43 to 85 inches (the Q60A series has a total of 8 TV models), we can assume that this TV uses third-party-made screens.

Samsung QLED TVs 2021 processors

You should understand that the names, Neo Quantum Processor 4K, Quantum Processor 4K, Neo Quantum Processor 4K Lite, are commercial processor names.
In fact, most likely the TVs Q70A, Q80A and QN85A, QN90A have almost identical processors. Perhaps there are minor differences, but Samsung does not disclose this information.
The Q60A series processor is less powerful because it only supports a maximum frame rate of 60 Hz per second.

Samsung QLED TVs 2021 sound

The higher the TV series, the better sound quality the TV will have, provided you use the built-in speakers. However, if you are using external speakers it doesn’t matter.
Q80A, QN85A, QN90A TVs have subwoofers, which allows you to get high-quality sound without external speakers. The power of the built-in speakers is 60W.
Models Q60A, Q70A are cheaper, so the TVs in this series have two speakers. The TVs support Object Tracking Sound, as well as surround sound features.

Samsung QLED TVs 2021 OS

Samsung 2021 QLED TV models use the new and improved Tizen 6.0 operating system. It also adds a computer-sharing function and the Samsung Health app for health monitoring.
A new Game Bar has also been added to make it easier to use the TV as a monitor. Also, starting from Q70A, Samsung QLED TVs also support FreeSync.

Samsung QLED 2021 TVs ports

You can say that everything is standard as far as connections are concerned. The TVs have HDMI 2.0 ports and one 2.1 port each.
Note that the Q60A does not have an HDMI 2.1 port. Since it is the cheapest model, it only has HDMI 2.0 ports.

What QLED TV should you buy?

If you’re looking for the cheapest QLED TV, you can buy the Q60A, but it’s not the best solution.
Slightly better but without local dimming is the Q70A. However, in my opinion, the best choice would be to buy Q80A.
If you want the highest quality TV, then look at Q85A. It has a screen made with IPS technology (probably BOE production). And if you want the best TV ever, then buy Q90A.
