Sony utilizes Android for its TVs, and in 2021, the company transitioned to Google TV, which also operates on Android. This change has slightly altered the process for connecting Bluetooth headphones, though the overall method remains quite straightforward and has become standard.
To connect Bluetooth headphones or external speakers, follow these steps:
- Turn on your Bluetooth device and set it to pairing mode. Refer to the device’s manual for specific instructions, as the method for entering pairing mode can vary; it might involve pressing a single button or a combination of buttons. Once in pairing mode, the headphones will remain discoverable for 5 minutes. If pairing is not completed within this timeframe, they will exit pairing mode.
- Turn on pairing mode on your TV to search for available Bluetooth devices. Instructions on how to do this are listed below, depending on the year of your TV.

Connecting Bluetooth headphones to a Sony TV without built-in Bluetooth
If your Sony TV does not have built-in Bluetooth, you can connect your headphones using an external Bluetooth adapter. This adapter will send sound from the TV to your wireless headphones.
The adapter can be powered by the TV’s USB port or your phone’s charger. To connect the adapter to your TV, use either the 3.5mm headphone jack or the optical port, depending on the adapter model and the availability of ports on your TV. Once the adapter is connected to your TV, you can directly pair your headphones with it.
Important: Standard USB adapters designed for computers are not compatible with TVs because TVs do not support the necessary software.
