Q-Symphony is an innovative feature developed by Samsung Audio Lab engineers. When activated, the TV speakers and soundbar can work together, even reconfiguring the audio system for better sound. However, it’s important to note that Q-Symphony only works with surround sound formats, namely 5.1 or 7.1 in Dolby+ or Dolby Atmos. DTS is not supported.
How Q-Symphony works
Normally, when you connect the soundbar to your TV, the TV speakers are muted to avoid audio interference from the soundbar. Samsung engineers have found a way to improve audio systems by allowing the TV speakers and the soundbar to work simultaneously.
For example, if you have a TV that supports the 2.1 audio format (which includes two speakers and a subwoofer) and a Samsung soundbar, such as the 3.0 configuration, activating Q-Symphony will reconfigure the audio output. In this case, the soundbar will output the left and right channels, while the TV speakers will handle the center channel and send the bass to the subwoofer.
In systems where the soundbar and TV have a similar configuration, the less powerful speakers are usually muted to avoid overlapping sounds and echo. This is because synchronizing identical sound channels on the two devices can be difficult.
If you turn on Q-Symphony when watching content with stereo sound, the sound quality will not improve because it lacks the necessary audio channels for surround sound. In this case, the TV will operate in standard mode using only the built-in speakers.
