What is Samsung 2021 SolarCell remote?

Remotes nowadays are far away from just a simple accessory to control you TV, now that’s more important thing that determines how comfortable you will be with your TV.

The Samsung 2021 Smart remote has a commercial name SolarCell Remote, which is a commercial name registered by Samsung so we can assume that it will be used for Samsung remotes for the next few years.

That’s the next generation magic remote, that offers almost the same features, but also has solar cells, installed into the remote.

TM2180E SolarCell remote differences

The main difference, compared to previous smart remotes is sollar cells used to recharge the smart remote.

When light hits the cells (room or natural light), these cells produce electrical energy. According to Samsung, this innovation will save about 99 million batteries per year. For the sake of interest, let’s think about how that figure came about. If we assume that you change the batteries in the remote control twice a year. And the remote control uses two batteries, this figure comes if the company would sell at least 25 million of 2021 TVs and remotes.

How TM2180E SolarCell remote works

There are solar cells on the back of the remote control, you can see them in the picture below.

When you will not use the remote control, you can put it in a well-lit place and the solar cells will generate electricity and your remote control can work without wasting battery power. The generated electricity is used to run the remote control, if the generated amount of electricity is not enough, then the electricity from the batteries would be used.

Tests have shown that the TM2180 consumes 86% less electricity (these tests most likely took into account the current the batteries give off during operation). From these studies, we can assume that the batteries in the new Samsung TM2180 remotes will last around 7x longer than those in Samsung TVs from 2017-2020.

Differences between TM2180E TM2180F, TM2180A, TM2180B

The letters in the remote control number (A, B, F, E) indicate the remote control modification. Different countries offer remote control models adapted to the specific users’ preferences, for example in the US, Canada, Mexico is popular Amazon Prime video, while in other countries this service is unpopular and the Amazon button can be replaced with other streaming service button.
