Crystal UHD TV models by country
At the time of writing, not all new 2023 TVs are available on Samsung’s website, and the list of models is updated gradually on regional sites as well. Despite the sizeable seeming variety of TVs, only three models have fundamental differences.
7 Series Crystal UHD: There is only one CU70 or CU71 in this series
Eight series Crystal UHD: in this eight series, there are two models, CU80* and CU85*
You will find out the differences in the article, but here is some information about the Crystal UHD series.
Crystal UHD is a budget series of TV sets, the cheapest TV sets, and as you know to reduce the cost of TV sets by installing a cheap display. This is what is done in this series of TVs; the display, although called Crystal, is made by classical technology. This is a LED screen but with a color depth of 8 bits. To increase the number of shades, the dithering system is applied (rapid blinking backlight). As a result, the TV is positioned as 8bit + FRC, and it is declared that it can show a billion colors. We do not know if it is true, so we believe the manufacturer. I will only note that the Neo QLED TVs have better color reproduction. The backlighting in the TVs is edge-lit; the backlight strips are installed at the bottom of the screen, so we can really talk about the dimming system only conditionally. In Crystal UHD TVs, only half of the screen can be dimmed.
Samsung has not made the screens for this series for a long time; they are made by Chinese manufacturers TLC (CSOT), Innolux, and BOE.
Crystal UHD TV Samsung Model Number
As you can see from the table, TV model numbers vary by country. Here’s how you can understand the model number of your TV. As an example, let’s take the CU8510 TV model:
- С – 2023
- U – UHD screen resolution
- 8 – is the TV series.
- 5 – TV model.
- 10 – design, as well as a region or country identifier.
Thus, the TV models CU7100, CU7179, CU7170, and so on are the same, just models made for different countries. But TV models CU8000 and CU8500 have differences; the differences may be in technical parameters and software limitations.

Now about the differences between the CU7000, CU8000, and CU8500 TV models.
- The CU7 is a 7-series TV from the Crystal TV line. This model has the following features.
- USB – The TV is equipped with one USB port.
- Remote control – the TV has a TM2240 remote control, the most basic Smart remote. It has no microphone, so you can’t control the TV with the remote. In the UK, the TV comes with an optional universal remote control.
- CU80 – this TV is a Series 8:
- USB – already has two USB ports.
- Remote control – the TV comes with a TM2360E remote control. The remote control of the new series has a reduced size, solar panels for recharging the remote from the light stream, and a microphone.
- The CU85 TV is also in the eight series and has similar specifications, but the port layout differs from the CU80. This may indicate a different package. The port layout on the main board of the TVs is different.
I should also note that the port layout on the CU70 (71) and CU80 series TVs is the same, which in turn indicates the use of the same components. Consequently, the difference between the CU70** and CU80** series is in the remote controls.
