Some Samsung TV models feature a two-part design, consisting of a display panel and a separate control unit known as the One Connect box. Samsung began introducing TVs with this configuration in 2017. However, this wasn’t the company’s first attempt at external units—between 2012 and 2014, Samsung offered SEK upgrade kits for select TVs, aimed at keeping hardware up-to-date. These kits saw limited popularity, and with the rise of streaming devices, the need for such upgrades quickly faded.

The concept of separating the display from the TV’s processing components was seen as a more innovative approach. Nonetheless, the number of models using this layout has significantly decreased over time. While the idea promised easier maintenance, it didn’t fully deliver—most TV failures tend to involve the display itself rather than the processing unit. Additionally, some consumers found the two-part setup inconvenient, which further limited the appeal of the design.

Part number and model number of One Connect Box

The One Connect Box comes with both a model number and a part number, each serving a different purpose. The model number is typically straightforward and easy to interpret—for instance, Y24 4K indicates a 2024 model designed for 4K TVs.

In addition to the model number, there’s also a specific part number, such as BN96-35817D, which is used in Samsung’s internal catalog. It’s important to note that the part number may vary even for the same TV model, depending on the region the unit is intended for. These differences are primarily due to regional technical requirements, such as variations in digital tuner standards and power supply voltage.

Since 2022, Samsung has adopted a strategy of multi-year compatibility for its boxes. For example, the One Connect Box released with The Frame 2022 is also compatible with The Frame 2024 models, as the hardware design remained unchanged, with only the operating system updated. Similarly, the 2024 One Connect Box for OLED TVs is fully compatible with 2025 OLED models.
