Crystal UHD in the 2020 Samsung TU7000 Series: A Step Down in Features for Lower Price

When comparing the Samsung TU7000 and TU7100 series from 2020 to the previous year’s RU7100 series, several differences are immediately noticeable.

One of the most significant changes is the introduction of the new “Crystal UHD” branding for the 2020 models, which refers to a more affordable screen technology. However, these new models feature lower technical specifications compared to the 2019 RU7000 TVs. Notably, the frame rate has dropped from 120 frames per second in the 2019 models to 60 frames per second in the 2020 models. Additionally, the number of HDMI and USB ports has been reduced. The 2020 models offer only two HDMI ports, down from three in the 2019 versions, and only one USB port, compared to the 2019 models which also had one.

Aside from these differences, most of the other specifications remain unchanged. In Europe, the PQI (Picture Quality Index) is still used, replacing the actual frame rate information typically provided for the TV.

The reduction in port options and the use of less expensive display panels help bring down the price of Samsung’s entry-level models in 2020.
