If you own a TV released before 2016, you may have difficulty finding and installing the Disney Plus app directly on your device. Some lesser-known Android TVs released after 2016 may also not support the app, depending on their hardware and software configuration. Despite the ability to watch Disney Plus on tablets or mobile devices, watching videos on a big screen TV is usually much more convenient and fun. Therefore, as a rule solves the problem by using external devices.

Using External Streaming Devices for Disney Plus

Amazon Fire TV devices and all Fire TV Edition Smart TVs support Disney Plus, giving users a wide range of options. Apple AirPlay allows streaming from iOS devices to Apple TVs running tvOS 11 or later, including the 3rd and 4th generation Apple TVs, as well as TVs compatible with AirPlay 2. Chromebooks support Disney Plus through their built-in browsers and by downloading the Disney Plus Android app. Chromecast streaming works from iOS, Android, and Google Chrome browsers to compatible Chromecast devices such as Google Chromecast (version 1 and newer), Google Nest Hub, and Android TVs with built-in Chromecast.

Disney Plus works on many Roku devices, including older models like Roku LT and Roku 1, as well as newer 4K-capable devices such as Roku Premiere and Roku Ultra. Some older Roku models are not supported, so verifying your device’s compatibility is important. PlayStation consoles such as PlayStation 4 (all variants) and PlayStation 5 also support Disney Plus, as do Xbox consoles including Xbox One and the Xbox Series X and S. Vizio SmartCast TVs from 2016 onward support Disney Plus with a few exceptions, and the app is available on the SmartCast platform in the U.S., Canada, and Puerto Rico. Lastly, Xfinity devices such as the Xfinity Flex and X1 TV Boxes support Disney Plus on various models.

Important Note on 4K and HDR Streaming

To stream Disney Plus content in 4K Ultra HD and HDR, your TV and streaming device must support HDCP 2.2 encryption and have HDMI 2.0 or newer ports. If your TV does not support HDCP 2.2, you will still be able to watch Disney Plus but only in lower resolutions without HDR features.
