If your TV was manufactured before 2016, it may not be possible to install the Disney+ app directly on the device. In most cases, TVs manufactured before this time do not support modern streaming apps. This is mainly because TVs that are more than seven years old typically no longer receive software updates from manufacturers, and there are too few of these devices for developers to continue creating and supporting new apps for them.

External streaming devices

The easiest way to solve this problem is to use an external streaming device that connects to your TV via HDMI and allows you to install modern apps. Popular options include the Amazon Fire TV Stick, Apple TV (3rd generation) and Apple TV (4th generation) with tvOS 11 or later, as well as the Roku Streaming Stick and Google Chromecast. Simply connect the device to your TV, install the Disney+ app, log in to your account, and start watching.

However, if you want to stream content in 4K Ultra HD and HDR, both your TV and streaming device must support HDCP 2.2 encryption and have HDMI 2.0 or later ports. If your TV does not support HDCP 2.2, some highly protected movies may only play in standard HD resolution without HDR.

In principle, there are other ways to watch Disney+ on an older TV. For example, you can mirror your smartphone screen on your TV, but this method is usually not very practical for regular viewing. Another option is to connect your laptop to your TV using an HDMI cable and stream content from your browser, although this solution is also not very convenient for everyday use.

It’s also worth noting that the lack of a Disney+ app directly on the TV affects only a relatively small number of devices, mainly older models.
