Until 2016, Samsung classified its televisions using a series system ranging from 1 to 9.

Series 1–3 were intended for CRT televisions. However, in practice this classification was rarely used. By the time the system was formalized, CRT TVs had already been largely discontinued, so these series were essentially reserved but were almost never applied to actual models.

Series 4–9 were used for flat-screen TVs. Initially, these included plasma and LCD televisions, and later, as technology advanced, LED TVs were added to the lineup.

In 2017, Samsung introduced QLED TVs, and the traditional series classification was discontinued. The numbering also stopped reflecting the real hierarchy of picture quality. For example, QLED 7 Series TVs often delivered much better picture quality than LED 9 Series models, despite the higher number in the older LED lineup.

However, this does not mean that Samsung stopped grouping its products. The company still assigns every TV, monitor, or projector model to a specific product line.

This structure can be seen on Samsung’s developer website https://developer.samsung.com, and it helps explain how Samsung organizes its devices and what this means for the average consumer.

Сategories and groups TVs and monitors Samsung

Samsung divides its video display devices (TVs, Monitos) into three main categories: PREMIUM, STANDARD, and BASIC. Each category can also include several subcategories, such as PREMIUM 1 and PREMIUM 2. These classifications reflect differences in the hardware platform used in the devices. In practical terms, this means that TVs and monitors from different classes are built on different chassis and motherboards.

The table below shows the classification of Samsung devices and explains which class each model belongs to. For example, in 2026, TVs from the Crystal UH7000 and UH8000 series are part of the Basic category. However, they belong to different subgroups within that category, indicating noticeable differences in their internal components and overall hardware configuration.change. In order to understand the TV model, disregard the first letter, for example, UAU9000. This is the AU9000 TV model.

Samsung TV categories 2012-2026

The information below may seem rather complex, but the key points are quite simple. For example, in 2026, Samsung will discontinue production of 8K TVs because demand for them was low and they failed to meet expectations—something that was evident from the very start of their sales.

It is also worth noting that the 9 and 8 series OLED TVs use different chassis. However, this difference is not particularly significant and is mentioned primarily for informational purposes.
