How to Identify Your iPad Model

The easiest way to identify an iPad is to check its model number. Apple assigns each hardware version an identifier beginning with the letter A, followed by four digits. Different model numbers may correspond to Wi-Fi and cellular versions of the same iPad or to versions intended for different markets.

You can find the model number in two ways:

  • In Settings: Open Settings, select General, and then tap About. Find the model number. If a part number is displayed instead, tap it to reveal the A-number.
  • On the back of the iPad: On many older models, the model number is printed in small text on the rear cover.

Once you have the A-number, find it in the tables below to identify your iPad generation, release year, screen size, and processor.
