EX-LINK port, EXT RGB port, IR port

In Samsung TVs you may see EXT RGB ports and IR output, you may be wondering what these connectors are and how to use them. But you know, if there is such a port, it means you can connect something to it. You should know that such ports are already obsolete and practically not used. Such ports can be found in old TVs that are 5-8 years old.

EXT RGB Samsung TV connector

This port connector is designed to transmit and receive signals similar to the standard scart or component connectors, but has a different shape, changing the shape of the connector due to the fact that in modern televisions there is no place to place a large number of traditional connectors, they are large and require a global change in the design of the TV. Since minimization at the moment is relevant, for example, Samsung began to use minimized ports, such as EXT RGB. EXT RGB probably comes from External RGB, the implication being that an external video signal can be connected to this port.

Connector (EXT RGB) is fully compatible with component or scart connectors and is used to connect to the TV obsolete equipment (the connector carries an analog signal). In modern TVs with high resolution screen is practically useless. The cable has an EXT connector on one side and either a Scart or AV Tulip connector on the other. Modern TVs hardly ever use the EXT connector. It is replaced by modern connectors such as HDMI. And there is no digital signal output in TVs, this is done to protect against unauthorized copying of video.

What is IR out PORT

The IR OUT port is a remote infrared emitter. In principle, an obsolete device. It has been used for example in the following cases. You have a TV, you have connected a DVD player to the TV and you want to control the DVD player with the TV remote control. Connect the infrared remote that you point at the DVD player to the TV. When you press play pause on the remote, the command will be received by the TV, transmitted to Ir Out and received by the DVD player’s receiver as an infrared signal. This method is hardly used nowadays, modern devices support control by sending control commands via HDMI, HDMI CEC.

EX-LINK port

EX-Link is nothing more than a service connector to control your TV directly from your computer. It is a modified RS-232 serial slow bus for controlling the TV. This connector is commonly used to control the TV in service centers. Through this port you can enter the Top Debug Menu (abbreviated as TDM) using additional software and a computer, you can unlock the TV, you can perform repairs and adjustments using infrared codes.
