The AU8000 is a 2021 TV and the TU8000 is a 2020 TV. As usual, you might want to save some money and buy last year’s model. So in this article, we’re going to figure out which model would be better to buy in terms of price and what you’re buying.
Both of these TVs belong to the Crystal UHD TV series. This series is sort of no longer LED, but also not QLED. Samsung accordingly positions these TVs as something in between LED and QLED. But you have to realize that this is just marketing, buying a Crystal UHD TV, you are buying a regular LED TV.

Samsung TU8000 vs AU8000 differences
There are very few differences between these two TV models as their tech specs are almost identical.
There are only two differences: the new remote TM2180A and the new Tizen 6.0 OS. And if the new version of the OS is really a strong advantage, the new remote has almost no differences from the previous model.
If you buy a TV to then connect it to a gaming console, the 2021 model also has a mode of automatic detection and connection of the game console. That is, when a game console is connected, the TV automatically goes into game mode.
So as you can see, there aren’t too many differences, in terms of hardware, these are almost two identical TVs.
Should you buy AU8000?
You have to understand that the AU8000 is a series 8 TV, but in recent years the concept of series in TVs has almost disappeared. This is because of new technology, for example, QLED TV series 6 has more advantages over the 8 series Crystal UHD TV. So the AU8000 is a mid-range TV with not the best display and body.
In order to increase the number of shades, the Samsung AU8000 uses dithering. Initially, this display is 8-bit, but this technology increases the number of possible shades. The backlighting of the screen is located on the edges, which worsens the possibilities for local dimming technology. The maximum frame rate is 60 frames per second.
Of course, if you are not particularly picky about picture quality and application performance, then AU8000 would be a good choice because the TV is attractive in the first place because of its price. So far, Samsung has announced three TVs with 43-inch, 65-inch, and 75-inch screens. Perhaps other screen sizes will be introduced in the future.
But what you definitely shouldn’t do is buy the TU8000 to save money. It won’t get an update to Tizen 6.0, so you’re buying a TV on an outdated OS.
So if you want to save some money, the AU8000 is the right choice, but if you want to get a TV with a better picture quality we recommend looking at the QLED series.
