Samsung’s QLED UHD TVs have traditionally been positioned as premium models. However, in 2020, not all QLED TVs live up to this standard. Let’s take a closer look at the technical specifications of the Q60T, Q70T, Q80T, and Q90T models to see the differences.

Design

All 2020 QLED TVs share a similar design. The TVs are built in a single unit with the power supply, control board, and ports integrated into the back panel. Unlike previous premium models, the 2020 lineup (at least for the 4K models) does not include the OneConnect box, which previously housed ports and connections separately.

Key Differences Between Models

  • Q60T: Entry-level model with a 60Hz refresh rate, Edge LED backlighting, and 20W sound output.
  • Q70T: Features a 120Hz refresh rate and Edge LED (Dual LED) technology.
  • Q80T: Offers Direct Full Array 8X backlighting, 60W sound output (49” model has 40W), and Object Tracking Sound.
  • Q90T: The flagship model with Direct Full Array 16X backlighting, a true 10-bit VA panel, Object Tracking Sound, and Q-Symphony technology.

Display and Backlighting

The Q60T and Q70T use Edge LED with Dual LED technology, mixing warm and bright white LEDs to improve image quality. The Q80T and Q90T use Direct Full Array backlighting for better contrast and deeper blacks. The Q60T, Q70T, and Q80T models use 8-bit panels with FRC technology, while the Q90T features a true 10-bit screen, providing superior color depth.

Audio Features

The Q80T and Q90T include Object Tracking Sound and Q-Symphony technology. These features enhance the surround sound experience and allow the TV speakers to work in sync with 2020 Q-series soundbars, provided the audio source is high-quality (5.1 or 7.1).

Gaming Capabilities

All models, except for the Q60T, support HDMI 2.1 and AMD FreeSync, along with Real Game Enhancer+ technology, which is standard for HDMI 2.1. The Q60T is limited to HDMI 2.0, making it less suitable for next-gen gaming.

Which Model Should You Choose?

If you’re on a budget, the Q70T offers better value than the Q60T. The Q80T is a good choice for enhanced sound and backlighting quality. For the best overall experience, the Q90T remains the top choice, providing maximum quality and support for advanced technologies.
