Movie mode is one of the oldest and most enduring preset picture modes, having been around since the 1980s. Despite more than 40 years of history, until now many users haven’t really thought about it and don’t know how it works or why it’s needed, and many don’t use it at all.
TV manufacturers explain it as a mode that is best suited for prolonged viewing making TV viewing comfortable for a couple of hours.
Why regular settings tire the eyes
Most people watch movies in the evening, in silence, with the lights dimmed or turned off completely. In such conditions, the standard TV settings – with increased brightness and contrast – can cause discomfort and fatigue. It becomes hard on the eyes, especially when watching for long periods of time. To avoid fatigue, a special display mode, Cinema, has been created.
How the “Movie” mode works
The principle of its operation is quite simple. Brightness and contrast are reduced to reduce the strain on the eyes, and the color temperature becomes slightly warmer, this is the adjustment of tones or colors. This gives the image softness and makes it comfortable to perceive in a dark room. The picture becomes less bright, more natural and not annoying even when viewed for long periods of time.
Movie mode is a kind of adapted picture setting designed specifically for long periods of TV viewing.
Of course in reality rarely people switch modes on the TV when using it, and movie mode is not very suitable for watching TV in bright light, dark scenes when using this mode lose detail in dark scenes, but it is worth a try to watch TV with this setting.
