Samsung’s “Active Voice Amplifier” (AVA) feature, introduced in 2020, is available on select models equipped with a built-in microphone. This feature is designed to enhance conversation clarity by adjusting the audio level based on the ambient noise level in the room.

The Active Voice Amplifier (AVA) feature optimizes dialogue by automatically increasing the volume of voices when background noise exceeds a certain threshold. This ensures that on-screen conversations remain clearly audible even in noisy environments. To function effectively, AVA responds to changes in external sound with a slight delay—approximately three seconds.

How the Active Voice Amplifier Works

Operating at the software level, the program analyzes the external sound environment; to do this, AVA uses the built-in microphone. When background noise exceeds a set level, the program amplifies the frequency range characteristic of human speech (approximately 100 Hz to 4 kHz). This feature is particularly useful in situations where background noise can interfere with sound clarity, such as while doing household chores.

By default, the “Active Voice Amplifier” feature is turned off. To enable it, you must manually activate it in the TV settings.

Samsung also offers a more advanced version—Active Voice Amplifier Pro—which is marketed as using artificial intelligence to analyze both the surrounding environment and the content on the screen. Although it is difficult to verify whether a full set of AI features is built into the TV (since these devices have limited processing power), it is quite likely that Samsung’s servers analyze feedback from a multitude of TVs, collecting data to optimize AVA’s performance across all models.
