Introduced in 2020, Samsung’s Active Voice Amplifier feature is available in select models equipped with a built-in microphone. This feature is designed to enhance dialogue clarity by adjusting audio levels based on ambient noise in the room.

What is the Active Voice Amplifier?

The Active Voice Amplifier (AVA) optimizes dialogue by automatically increasing voice volume when background noise exceeds a certain threshold. This ensures conversations on screen remain clearly audible, even in noisy environments. For effective operation, the AVA reacts to changes in external sound after a brief delay of about three seconds.

How the Active Voice Amplifier Works

Operating at the software level, the AVA uses the TV’s built-in microphone to monitor noise in the room. When the background sound exceeds a preset level, the software amplifies the frequency range typical of human speech (approximately 100 Hz to 4 kHz). This feature is especially useful in situations where background noise might interfere with clarity, such as during household chores like vacuuming or using a blender.

By default, the Active Voice Amplifier is disabled. To activate it, you will need to enable it manually in your TV’s settings.

Active Voice Amplifier Pro: Samsung also offers a more advanced version, Active Voice Amplifier Pro, which is marketed as utilizing artificial intelligence to analyze both the environment and on-screen content. While it’s challenging to verify whether full AI functionality is built into the TV (since these devices have limited processing power), it is likely that Samsung servers analyze feedback from many TVs, gathering data to optimize AVA performance across models.

Enabling the Active Voice Amplifier on Your Samsung TV

The steps to enable Active Voice Amplifier vary by model and operating system version, and some models may not support this feature at all. Refer to your specific model’s manual to locate the settings and turn on AVA if available.
